Credit Card Reform and Guns in National Parks

Congress has now passed two unrelated pieces of legislation. Credit card reform and guns in the park. I am not expressing an opinion on either piece of legislation, though I have my opinion on both.

My concern is the way this legislative business is conducted, under the guise of compromise. And getting things done.

If you vote for mine, I'll vote for yours.

Does this approach not give the country two bad laws for the price of one?

If we need guns in the national parks, it should stand on its own.

If we need credit card reform, it should stand on its own.

I really think it is time to change business as usual in Congress. Does it make sense that the credit card bill also addresses gun legislation?

This is business as usual, and it produces bad laws. It happens with most every piece of legislation, certainly every major piece of legislation.

Richard I agree with you. It is the cost of doing business in Washington. I am still very hopeful that the Obama administration will have the fortitude to change the old wyas.

Lenn,

I am on record. I will not vote for an incumbent. It is my little stand. But nothing seems to me better than to have fresh voices and ideas from people who recently in the real world and who are soon to return there.

Steve,

My point is that it is a cost we cannot afford. My idea is for Congress to go home. We will send their pay to them. Congress passed the Commodities Modernization and took lobby money to cause this mess. And they are the ones to fix it?

As far as the likelihood of an Obama administration changing the rules - I doubt it. He is very recently from the Congress. And I don't think power brokers in Congress take to kindly to interference.

I agree, no law should be passed that requires a member to put pork in to so it can get votes. That is how most of these bad laws get passed without anyone knowing about them.
