This new school year opens with a new school building at Orchard Knob Elementary. The new school replaces the older school building and is on the same site as the old building.
The initial demolition, which took about 7 weeks, began in May as soon as school let out. Now in August the new buildings welcome the students, even though some of the finishing touches on the grounds and pavement are still being done.
This is part of $152 million building project that is underway in Hamilton County. The approximate cost of the new school is $12 million.
The principal at Orchard Knob is Marthel Young.
Here is a news coverage video of the opening ceremonies.

Orchard Knob has 300 students, and until this year had the oldest facilities in Hamilton County. This has to be an exciting start for the students and faculty. School starts August 12.
Congratulations to the students and staff. Enjoy the great new facility.

That's a very impressive looking elementary school! Hopefully the little folks won't get lost in such a big building. :0) It looks very pretty.
Richard, This is a nice looking school. It seems like we have a new school opening in Montgomery county ever year. I love the small size Ochard Knob. My girl elementary school has about 400 students.
Lindsay,
It does look like a big building for little folks.
Jim,
The paper did a report on all schools last week. It listed the Orchard Knob school as being built in 1912, referring to the previous building. We still have a couple schools built in the 1930's, but we are slowly getting new schools.
I will post some more new schools this week.
Richard
Richard - Really a beautiful new school. I miss bricks. You know, I watched the opening ceremonies - the Pizza and Ice Cream Parlor looked very inviting. The ceremony seemed boring to me, I've never even been there - but I watched it anyway. Then I caught it. The excitement of these people and the smiles on their faces, opening their new school, I was kinda proud and smiling, too. Funny thing.
Nice post.
