Chattanooga is full of wonderful statuary. One of the most intriguing is the Ascending Path. This is an award winning sculpture, being recognized as one of America's Best Public Art Projects by Americans for the Arts in Philadelphia.
The sculpture is a 12 foot tall bridge with 7 bronze figures representing the Trail of Tears and the African American contraband camp that was close to the site of Renaissance Park.
The sculptors who were commissioned to create this piece commemorating "weary travelers who have crossed the (Tennessee) River down though history."
Plaque at base of Ascending Path, words of the artist Aaron Hussey.
The artists who created the sculpture are Aaron Hussey and Brad Bourgoyne of Baton Rouge, La.
