Chattanooga Sculpture - Ascending Path in Renaissance Park

Chattanooga is full of wonderful statuary. One of the most intriguing is the Ascending Path. This is an award winning sculpture, being recognized as one of America's Best Public Art Projects by Americans for the Arts in Philadelphia.

The sculpture is a 12 foot tall bridge with 7 bronze figures representing the Trail of Tears  and the African American contraband camp that was close to the site of Renaissance Park.

Chattanooga Sculpture - Hunter Museum Sculpture Garden, Full Count by John Dreyfuss

Chattanooga is blessed with an active arts community. A brief walk around almost any part of the city will bring you to a random piece of art. Sometimes the art is surprising. Always it is striking.

One of my favorites is Full Count by John Dreyfuss. Completed in 1990. For a long time the sculpture was in the Aquarium complex. It is now moved to the Hunter Museum Sculpture Garden.

Chattanooga Active Retirement Choice - MSN reports Chattanooga a top choice for active retirees

Tennessee and Chattanooga in particular are top relocation choices for the retired who want to be active. Photo of Chattanooga from across the Tennessee RiverThis is according to a recent MSN report.

Comments include "We wanted a friendlier climate," " I don't think we are retirement community material" so we chose Chattanooga, "It's an economical place to live," boomers want to be in a real, live, diverse community that offers a lot to do."

The MSN article mentions "hiking and biking trails, an aquarium and a thriving local arts scene," about which see my Top 5 in Chattanooga post.

Chattanooga is not just a great place to visit. It is a great place to live.
