A blog is about internet marketing, using search engines to find you or me. We are all about SEO, SERP, links, keywords, H1-H6 titles, meta descriptions, meta titles, alt tags, HTML code.
I was in an agent's office today and asked him to look at my blog - my outside AR blog to be exact. He was impressed first of all that I had one. Probably thought "Pretty surprising for an old guy." I hope secondly that he was impressed with the content and variety covered.
I left him with the blog site saved and hope that he will return - to see what I am writing, to look for future content, to join AR??
Anyway, he was exposed to my blog because I asked him to look at it, not because of my excellent selection of keywords. (BTW, my keywords still suck. This reference is really a cheap trick to sneak in a little SEO back linking.)
An article on website marketing suggested that everything mention your website - cards, voice mail message at work and on the cell, email, print advertising, radio/TV, signs - everything.
I guess the same applies to your blog. Tell people to check it out. It is current. It is relevant. It is local. It is visual. It is entertaining. It has video (let me know what you think, just testing it.) It is informative. It is helpful. It is important.
Put it on your emails, tell your clients, on stationary, in voice mail, in print.
But make your blog - your blog. Original content. Please do not post reworked material that you cut and paste. It is not insulting, as much as it is embarrassing.
Please leave off the advertising posing as a blog, at least here on AR. The fact that you are posting informative and helpful material with your name on it is advertising your product and services. Use the footer for more solicitation.
I feel obligated to anyone who reads my posts or my website to make it worth their time, to be correct, to be fair in my presentations. There is a responsiblity to put in the effort to be current and accurate so that the information in the blog is current and accurate.
When someone reads what I write, it matters that I know the reader is getting my best effort. That is with my website as well as my blog post. I think that feeling is shared and modeled by most on Active Rain.
