I love Chattanooga - Riverbend Festival Day Two

The Riverbend Festival of Chattanooga is now in it 28th year. The first year 1,000 came to the festival. The intent was to bring the "diverse elements of Chattanooga together through music." Over the year the festival has accomplished its goal.

The festival has grown up and has been a part of the revitalization of the down town area.

The festival began as the "Five Nights in Chattanooga" and was held along a narrow walkway along the river. It has grown to as many as 6 stages, taking up several blocks of down town Chattanooga, with nightly attendance of more than 100,000.

With some of the most popular acts (Lynyrd Skynyrd and Alabama to name two) attendance can exceed 150,000.

The local radio stations generally present on the main stage a major act each night from one of the various most popular music types: rock, country, R&B. Classical, Celtic, folk, instrumental, and other music types also have performers throughout the week on the other stages. You can find your favorite type of music almost every night. You can enjoy something new every night.

Here is my playlist from night 2 at Riverbend 2008.

The main stage was Anthony Hamilton. He is an artist I had not heard of. His voice and the musical performance were amazing. Here are some of his songs.

Some photos from the day.

The photo on the left is the crowd the Mark Farner concert. He is the former lead singer of Grand Funk Railroad. He gave a tremendous show. The photo on the right is Summer Hullendar, a local singer song writer. You might just hear her name again. Her song selection, Me and Bobby McGee, Dock of the Bay, and many others, were songs that required a powerful and ranging voice. She certainly has that. She sang many of her own songs.

I love Chattanooga - Riverbend Festival Day One

I love to go to Riverbend. The crowds are exciting. The entertainment is tops. You can see local amateur performers, rising stars, established stars, and old time favorites.

Riverbend is the main music festival held in Chattanooga annually since 1981.

Along the river there are many street performers, vendors, arts and crafts displays, fun activities for children and adults.

The main focus though is music, a variety of musical talents and types.

There are this year 4 main stages that have perfomances from 5:30 until around midnight. The festival runs for 9 nights.

The main acts on the main Coca Cola stage are always the focus of most who attend, but the acts on the other stages are always terrific. I am frequently disappointed when two i want to see are playing at the same time, or if I just arrive too late.

The variety of the quality musical acts performing is just not found in many places.

Here is a play list of two of the acts from the first day.

The Black Crowes headlined on the CocaCola Stage. The reported attendance was over 100,000.

The concert was terrific, and the crowd was great. For some reason they did not play Too Hard to Handle or She Talks to Angels. Both are on this play list.

The Riverbend website is http://www.riverbendfestival.com/

Here are some photos from the first day. Both were take early in the day, before the musical acts had started. I will not post any photos from the musical performers, not sure of copyright issues.

Let's get more buyers qualified

At a recent luncheon with the Chattanooga Home Builders, Pam Duffy, President of Chattanooga Association of REALTORS, mentioned that the unit sales number in Chattanooga had dropped by roughly the percentage of prior year sales that were closed with subprime loans.

That is a remarkable coincidence.

What is needed is to qualify those buyers with loan programs that exist today. Otherwise we lose a significant chunk of the market forever.

The focus should be to identify them and to provide the services they need to become qualified. This means affordable credit repair, or credit building. It could mean accessing underserved markets.

I plan to work through these ideas about expanding the pool of qualified buyers, legitimately, with as little impact on my time as possible. Any thoughts are appreciated.
